What is a Gastric Sleeve / VSG?

It is a minimally invasive operation performed through small incisions in the abdominal wall to resect a large part of the stomach. It is a type of subtotal gastrectomy that leaves a tubular stomach at the expense of the lesser curvature, around 85 to 90% of the stomach is removed and does not require the creation of anastomoses of any type. Although the extent of gastric resection is wide, the development of mechanical suture instruments and vascular sealants has allowed this technique to be performed laparoscopically in an expeditious manner.
